Other right-wing candidates won a combined 5%, leaving the 80-year-old incumbent fighting for his political survival ahead of the Oct. 25 runoff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The result\u2014and major victories by conservatives in concurrent congressional and state elections Sunday\u2014underscored the strength of right-wing sentiment in Brazil that none of the major polls had managed to capture.
