{"id":148262,"date":"2026-10-23T17:24:00","date_gmt":"2026-10-23T21:24:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kendallharmon.net\/?p=148262"},"modified":"2026-10-23T18:18:37","modified_gmt":"2026-10-23T22:18:37","slug":"church-times-christian-groups-condemn-jackdaw-approval-and-urge-ministers-to-reject-rosebank","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kendallharmon.net\/?p=148262","title":{"rendered":"(Church Times) Christian groups condemn Jackdaw approval and urge ministers to reject Rosebank \u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Christian charities and campaigners have condemned the Government\u2019s approval of the Jackdaw gas field in the North Sea. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.churchtimes.co.uk\/topics\/tearfund\">Tearfund<\/a> and the Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund (SCIAF) have called for the decision to be reversed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They emphasised the consequences for communities already suffering from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.churchtimes.co.uk\/topics\/climate-change\">climate change<\/a>, and urged government ministers to refuse permission for the much larger Rosebank oilfield.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Government announced on Wednesday that the Energy Secretary, Miatta Fahnbulleh, had agreed that the regulator could grant consent for gas to be produced at the Jackdaw field. The Labour Party promised in its election manifesto not to issue any licences to explore new oilfields and gas fields, but Jackdaw already held a licence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ms Fahnbulleh said on Wednesday: \u201cThis decision will support the country\u2019s energy security with home-grown gas this winter and help minimise the UK\u2019s use of imported higher-emission fuels as we continue our transition to renewables and nuclear.
