{"id":17627,"date":"2010-01-31T02:31:06","date_gmt":"2010-01-31T02:31:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/127.0.0.1\/site\/2017\/2\/1985\/washington_times_washingtons_bishop_chane_to_retire\/"},"modified":"2010-01-31T02:31:06","modified_gmt":"2010-01-31T02:31:06","slug":"washington_times_washingtons_bishop_chane_to_retire","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kendallharmon.net\/?p=17627","title":{"rendered":"Washington Times: Washington&#39;s Bishop Chane to retire"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Speaking to about 325 attendees at the annual diocesan convention at the Washington Cathedral, Bishop Chane, 65, admitted he was stepping down during a time of flagging growth and stagnant giving in the 42,000-member diocese.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Parochial reports filed by the parishes of our diocese for the most part tell a story of no real measurable growth in membership within the last 12 years,&#8221; he said. &#8220;Financial giving has been stagnant.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The budget that supports the missionary work of the diocese to its congregations, schools and our mission outreach beyond our borders has been stagnant as well. Any financial growth has come primarily through the bishops annual appeal and from the generosity of individuals, some who are not even Episcopalians.<\/p>\n<p><i><a href=\"http:\/\/washingtontimes.com\/news\/2010\/jan\/30\/washingtons-bishop-chane-retire\/?feat=home_headlines\" title=\"http:\/\/washingtontimes.com\/news\/2010\/jan\/30\/washingtons-bishop-chane-retire\/?feat=home_headlines\">Read it all.
