The Church of England\u2019s General Synod approved an amended resolution Feb. 10 to \u201crecognize and affirm the desire of those who have formed the Anglican Church in North America to remain within the Anglican family\u201d\u009d and to \u201cacknowledge that this aspiration, in respect both of relations with the Church of England and membership of the Anglican Communion, raises issues which the relevant authorities of each need to explore further.\u201d\u009d<\/p>\n
The original private member\u2019s motion, proposed by Lorna Ashworth, not only affirmed the ACNA but declared the Church of England in communion with it. In effect, the resolution postpones further Church of England comment on the ACNA until General Synod meets again in 2011.<\/p>\n
ACNA quickly issued a statement celebrating General Synod\u2019s passage of the resolution on a 309\u201d\u201c69 vote.<\/p>\n
