After the announcement that the General Election will be held on 6 May, church leaders have urged Chris\u00c2\u00adtians to get involved in the political process.<\/p>\n
The Bishop of Lincoln, Dr John Saxbee, said \u201crepresentative demo\u00c2\u00adcracy can only be effective when those in Government have a cred\u00c2\u00adible mandate,\u201d\u009d and called on the elect\u00c2\u00adorate, particularly Christians, to vote in \u201ca thoughtful and considered way\u201d\u009d. \u201cIt is especially important for Christians to take this responsibility seriously at a time when representa\u00c2\u00adtives of far-Right parties are stand\u00c2\u00ading for election, the policies of which need to be roundly resisted.\u201d\u009d<\/p>\n
Christians are being targeted by the British National Party (BNP). In a letter sent to the editor of the Church Times, a \u201cbeliever in the Lord Jesus Christ who had always been opposed to the BNP\u201d\u009d but has now joined the party said that it was \u201clight years ahead\u201d\u009d of the three mainstream parties in promoting Christian stand\u00c2\u00adards and morals. \u201cIt is possible to support the BNP and keep a clear conscience before God,\u201d\u009d he wrote.<\/p>\n
