The Rt. Rev. Edward J. Konieczny, a former police officer and Colorado rector, became the fifth bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Oklahoma during a ceremony Saturday at Oklahoma City University.<\/p>\n
About 3,000 people attended Konieczny’s consecration ceremony, which was presided over by the Most Rev. Katharine Jefferts Schori, presiding bishop of the Episcopal Church USA.<\/p>\n
Konieczny’s remarks immediately after the consecration were brief but appeared to make an impact on those in attendance. They applauded as Konieczny faced them dressed in his bishop vestment adorned with a colorful stole and wearing a miter \u201d\u201d a ceremonial headdress.<\/p>\n
“I’m not sure what one says at this moment except \u201d\u201d Whoa!\u201d\u009d Konieczny said. “You have honored me. You have humbled me. I pray that I earn it.\u201d\u009d<\/p>\n
