{"id":21018,"date":"2010-07-31T01:19:45","date_gmt":"2010-07-31T01:19:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/127.0.0.1\/site\/2017\/2\/1985\/christ_church_savannah_files_appeal_to_the_georgia_supreme_court\/"},"modified":"2010-07-31T01:19:45","modified_gmt":"2010-07-31T01:19:45","slug":"christ_church_savannah_files_appeal_to_the_georgia_supreme_court","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kendallharmon.net\/?p=21018","title":{"rendered":"Christ Church Savannah files appeal to the Georgia Supreme Court"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Leaders of Christ Church in Savannah have asked the state&#8217;s top court to review a July 8 Court of Appeals decision that the church&#8217;s historic downtown property belongs to the Episcopal Church.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, Christ Church officials appealed to the Georgia Supreme Court a recent ruling of the Georgia Court of Appeals upholding Judge Michael Karpf\u2019s decision issued in October 2009 against Christ Church and in favor of the Diocese of Georgia and The Episcopal Church.<\/p>\n<p>That decision upheld the plaintiff\u2019s argument that Christ Church holds its property in trust for the Diocese and the national church, based on a 1979 national church canon.<\/p>\n<p>The church had until Wednesday to file documents with the Supreme Court asking it to review the case.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/savannahnow.com\/latest-news\/2010-07-29\/christ-church-files-appeal-state-supreme-court\">Read it all<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Leaders of Christ Church in Savannah have asked the state&#8217;s top court to review a July 8 Court of Appeals decision that the church&#8217;s historic downtown property belongs to the Episcopal Church.
