And from the very opening session of this year\u2019s World Economic Forum here in Tianjin, our Chinese hosts did not hesitate to do some comparing. China\u2019s CCTV aired a skit showing four children \u201d\u201d one wearing the Chinese flag, another the American, another the Indian, and another the Brazilian \u201d\u201d getting ready to run a race. Before they take off, the American child, \u201cAnthony,\u201d\u009d boasts that he will win \u201cbecause I always win,\u201d\u009d and he jumps out to a big lead. But soon Anthony doubles over with cramps. \u201cNow is our chance to overtake him for the first time!\u201d\u009d shouts the Chinese child. \u201cWhat\u2019s wrong with Anthony?\u201d\u009d asks another. \u201cHe is overweight and flabby,\u201d\u009d says another child. \u201cHe ate too many hamburgers.\u201d\u009d<\/p>\n<p>That is how they see us.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2010\/09\/22\/opinion\/22friedman.html\">Read it all<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>To visit China today as an American is to compare and to be compared.
