In his Oct 14 press release, Canon Kearon said \u201cI have not received a response\u201d\u009d to this request for \u201cclarification\u201d\u009d from the Southern Cone.<\/p>\n
Canon Kearon\u2019s claim, however, is at odds with Bishop Venables\u2019 memory, as he reports having had two telephone conversations with Canon Kearon and one with Dr. Williams about this issue.<\/p>\n
Bishop Venables further stated that he told Dr. Williams and Canon Kearon in the three conversations that he could not give a definitive answer to Canon Kearon\u2019s letter until after the meeting of the Southern Cone standing committee.<\/p>\n
A spokesman for the ACC confirmed that Canon Kearon had indeed \u201cfollowed up with two phone calls\u201d\u009d his June letter to Bishop Venables. However, the secretary general had \u201creceived no clarification as to the current state of his interventions by mid July as requested,\u201d\u009d ACC spokesman Jan Butter said.<\/p>\n
