{"id":23128,"date":"2010-11-26T18:50:21","date_gmt":"2010-11-26T18:50:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/127.0.0.1\/site\/2017\/2\/1985\/church_times_on_church_of_england_general_synod_easy_ride_for_covenant_and_\/"},"modified":"2010-11-26T18:50:21","modified_gmt":"2010-11-26T18:50:21","slug":"church_times_on_church_of_england_general_synod_easy_ride_for_covenant_and_","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kendallharmon.net\/?p=23128","title":{"rendered":"Church Times on Church of England General Synod: Easy ride for Covenant and Big Society"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After a debate in which concerns about the content and implementa\u00c2\u00adtion of the Covenant were raised, all three Houses of the Synod voted overwhelmingly for the motion: \u201cThat the draft Act of Synod adopting the Anglican Communion Covenant be considered.\u201d\u009d<\/p>\n<p>In the House of Bishops, 39 voted in favour, none against, with one abstention; in the House of Clergy, 145 voted in favour, and 32 against, and 11 abstained; in the House of Laity, 147 voted in favour, and 25 against, and eight abstained.<\/p>\n<p>Introducing a debate on the Big Society on Tuesday, the Bishop of Lei\u00c2\u00adcester, the Rt Revd Timothy Stevens, said that the programme had begun to unleash a new wave of energy in the Churches for practical social action.
