In the future, the Pentagon believes that the PLA could extend further into the Pacific, using its fleet to control shipping lines and oil concessions. The \u201cpace and scale\u201d\u009d of the PLA\u2019s modernisation has been \u201cbroad and sweeping\u201d\u009d, the Pentagon said.
