{"id":26780,"date":"2011-06-17T16:19:17","date_gmt":"2011-06-17T16:19:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/127.0.0.1\/site\/2017\/2\/1985\/church_times_bishop_slams_one-sided_view_of_suicide_on_tv\/"},"modified":"2011-06-17T16:19:17","modified_gmt":"2011-06-17T16:19:17","slug":"church_times_bishop_slams_one-sided_view_of_suicide_on_tv","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kendallharmon.net\/?p=26780","title":{"rendered":"(Church Times) Bishops slam \u201d\u02dcone-sided view\u2019 of suicide on TV"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A former Bishop of Rochester, Dr Michael Nazir-Ali, said that the BBC had some \u201chard questions to address\u201d\u009d, after broadcasting the programme. \u201cIts own guidelines state that the portrayal of suicide has the potential to make this appear possible, and even appropriate, to the vulnerable.\u201d\u009d He also argued that \u201cthe BBC has an obligation to provide a balanced presentation of the moral issues of the day,\u201d\u009d but \u201cso far, there has been little evidence of such balance in this matter.\u201d\u009d<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, the BBC said that it ac\u00c2\u00adknow\u00c2\u00ad\u00c2\u00adledged that suicide was \u201can exceptionally difficult issue\u201d\u009d, which \u201cshould be portrayed with the utmost sensitivity\u201d\u009d.
