{"id":32592,"date":"2012-05-20T02:02:37","date_gmt":"2012-05-20T02:02:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/127.0.0.1\/site\/2017\/2\/1985\/orthodox_churches_in_britain_and_ireland_respond_to_governments_same-sex_ma\/"},"modified":"2012-05-20T02:02:37","modified_gmt":"2012-05-20T02:02:37","slug":"orthodox_churches_in_britain_and_ireland_respond_to_governments_same-sex_ma","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kendallharmon.net\/?p=32592","title":{"rendered":"Orthodox Churches in Britain and Ireland Respond to Government&#39;s \u201d\u02dcSame-Sex Marriage\u2019 Consultatio"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The\t   Pan-\u00c2\u00ad\u201d\u0090Orthodox\t   Episcopal\t   Assembly\t   for\t   the\t   British\t   Isles\t   and\t   Ireland\t   has\t   considered\t   the\t   Government&#8217;s\t  proposed\t   changes\t   to\t   the\t   law\t   relating\t   to\t   civil\t   marriage\t   and\t   welcomes\t   the\t   opportunity\t   to\t   respond\t   to\t   the\t  public\t  consultation\t  on\t  this\t  important\t  matter.\t  We\t  recognise\t  that\t  we\t  live\t  in\t  a\t  pluralistic\t  society\t  and\t  we\t  value\t  the\t  traditional\t  tolerance\t  of\t  British\t  society\t  in\t  which\t  we\t  enjoy\t  freedom\t  to\t  practise\t  and\t  witness\t  in\t  accordance\t  with\t  our\t  Orthodox\t  Christian\t  faith.\t  \t  At\t   the\t   same\t   time,\t   we\t   cannot\t   be\t   indifferent\t   to\t   the\t   evident\t   signs\t   of\t   the\t   negative\t   consequences\t   of\t   the\t  weakening\t  of\t  the\t  traditional\t  understanding\t  of\t  family\t  life\t  that\t  has\t  undeniably\t  occurred\t  in\t  the\t  last\t  fifty\t  years\t  or\t  so.\t  The\t  tragically\t  high\t  rates\t  of\t  family\t  breakdown\t  and\t  divorce,\t  of\t  teenage\t  pregnancy\t  and\t  abortions\t  and\t  of\t  single-\u00c2\u00ad\u201d\u0090parent\t  families\t  are\t  painful\t  to\t  contemplate.\t  The\t  early\t  sexualisation\t  of\t  children\t  and\t  indeed,\t  the\t  loss\t  of\t  childhood\t  itself,\t  fill\t  us\t  with\t  concern\t  for\t  the\t  future\t  of\t  our\t  society.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/dioceseofsourozh.squarespace.com\/storage\/documents\/Same-sex%20marriage.pdf\">Read it all<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Pan-\u00c2\u00ad\u201d\u0090Orthodox Episcopal Assembly for the British Isles and Ireland has considered the Government&#8217;s proposed changes to the law relating to civil marriage and welcomes the opportunity to respond to the public consultation on this important matter.
