{"id":39292,"date":"2013-07-30T03:00:34","date_gmt":"2013-07-30T03:00:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/127.0.0.1\/site\/2017\/2\/1985\/rns_did_pope_francis_change_church_teaching_on_homosexuality\/"},"modified":"2013-07-30T03:00:34","modified_gmt":"2013-07-30T03:00:34","slug":"rns_did_pope_francis_change_church_teaching_on_homosexuality","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kendallharmon.net\/?p=39292","title":{"rendered":"(RNS) Did Pope Francis change church teaching on homosexuality?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When asked by reporters about rumors of a \u201cgay lobby\u201d\u009d of clergy in the Vatican who were exposing the Holy See to blackmail schemes and scandal, Francis at first joked that while there\u2019s a lot of talk about such a lobby, \u201cI have yet to find on a Vatican identity card the word \u201d\u02dcgay.\u2019 \u201d\u009d<\/p>\n<p>Then, in a more serious vein, he added:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think that when we encounter a gay person, we must make the distinction between the fact of a person being gay and the fact of a lobby, because lobbies are not good. \u201d\u00a6 If a person is gay and seeks the Lord and has good will, who am I to judge that person?\u201d\u009d<\/p>\n<p>Francis also cited church teaching to argue that gays should never be marginalized: \u201cThe problem is not that one has this tendency (to homosexuality); no, we must be brothers.
