Wages and salaries made up nearly 70% of total compensation.<\/p>\n<p>The agency\u2019s quarterly report measures the average costs of wages, salaries and benefits for employees in the nonfarm private sector and state and local government workers. It doesn\u2019t include people who work for the federal government or are self-employed.
