White has marked the holiday in a more personal way: He writes a \u201cbirthday letter\u201d\u009d to the civil rights leader who was killed in 1968.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a way to get kind of a year\u2019s assessment on what the nation was accomplishing and not accomplishing in the area of race,\u201d\u009d said White, a bishop-in-residence at Emory University\u2019s Candler School of Theology for the last decade.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.religionnews.com\/2014\/01\/16\/dear-martin-bishops-letters-mlk-trace-highs-lows-race-relations\">Read it all<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The nation will mark the birthday of the Rev.
