The Archbishop of Canterbury said he was \u201coften deeply embarrassed\u201d\u009d by some failings of the Church of England in tackling anti-Semitism,<\/p>\n
Justin Welby said people should be shocked by the rise in anti-Semitism and described it as \u201cblasphemy\u201d\u009d, as he hosted the launch of the All-Party Parliamentary Inquiry into Anti-Semitism at Lambeth Palace.<\/p>\n
The Archbishop said the spike in anti-Semitic incidents in the UK and the Paris terror attack on a Jewish supermarket had made the report more timely. \u201cThe need for increased police patrolling of Jewish neighbourhoods in response to security concerns was a \u201cpeculiar and remarkable obscenity when we are in the midst of commemorating the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz\u201d\u009d, he said.
\nThe problem of anti-Semitism was \u201cdeeply embedded in our history and the culture of Western Europe\u201d\u009d, the Archbishop acknowledged as he praised the all-party group for highlighting \u201cthe stark reality of rising anti-Semitism in this country and the key responses necessary to counter it\u201d\u009d.<\/p>\n
