{"id":49337,"date":"2015-04-13T00:00:48","date_gmt":"2015-04-13T00:00:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/127.0.0.1\/site\/2017\/2\/1985\/usa_today_social-media_abuse_rampant_in_middle_high_school\/"},"modified":"2015-04-13T00:00:48","modified_gmt":"2015-04-13T00:00:48","slug":"usa_today_social-media_abuse_rampant_in_middle_high_school","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kendallharmon.net\/?p=49337","title":{"rendered":"(USA Today) Social-media abuse rampant in middle, high school"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Armed with cell phones and a dizzying array of social media choices, half of this area&#8217;s middle- and high-schoolers in a recent study admitted to social media abuse \u201d\u201d from bullying schoolmates to spreading rumors to pressuring others to send sexual texts or pictures.<\/p>\n<p>They also admitted to stalking their partners.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It begins with the constant texting or the stalking on Facebook. &#8216;Where are you?&#8217; and &#8216;Who are you with?'&#8221; said researcher Poco Kernsmith, an associate professor of social work at Wayne State University.<\/p>\n<p>What may seem like harmless teen jealousy can spiral into a dangerous relationship if left unchecked, said Kernsmith, whose research has centered on violence in relationships.
