The latest attempt to change the law on assisted dying, which is to be debated by MPs in a Second Reading in September, has faced opposition from critics from the Church of England and elsewhere.<\/p>\n
The Private Member\u2019s Bill, if passed, would enable terminally ill adults who are \u201cvoluntary, clear, settled, and informed\u201d\u009d to end their life with medically supervised assistance.<\/p>\n
In a blog post, \u201cCaring for the vulnerable in a compassionate society\u201d\u009d, published on the Church of England website on Wednesday, the Revd Dr Brendan McCarthy, the Church\u2019s national adviser on medical ethics, said that the Assisted Dying Bill \u201chas the potential to damage both the well-being of individuals and the nature and shape of our society\u201d\u009d.<\/p>\n
\u201cEvery person\u2019s life is of immeasurable value and ought to be affirmed, respected and cherished by society . . . even when some people no longer view their own lives as being of any further value. . .<\/p>\n
