Something he is keen to stress is the cross-faith work going on around climate change \u201d\u201c particularly in light of the Pope\u2019s encyclical, which he says has had a \u201chuge\u201d\u009d impact. Holtam himself recently presented to the Jewish Board of Deputies with former Friends of the Earth Director Jonathon Porritt. \u201cThere is a sense that we really want to work across the faith communities,\u201d\u009d he says \u201d\u201c pointing to an \u201cecumenical convergence\u201d\u009d on the issue. The force of events \u201d\u201c an \u201cexistential crisis\u201d\u009d \u201d\u201c was pushing faiths together to find a common solution. Indeed, our meeting coincided with a visit to London by the Patriarch of Constantinople, Bartholomew I, who insisted at an event with Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby that global warming is a \u201cmoral crisis\u201d\u009d requiring behavioural change.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat we need to move to is a low carbon economy and therefore there needs to be a positive investment into renewable energy,\u201d\u009d Holtam says. \u201cThere\u2019s going to become a tipping point at which there are stranded assets and the question is, who\u2019s going to spot when that comes? Because there\u2019ll be a moment when you\u2019re much better off investing in renewables than you are in fossil fuel.\u201d\u009d Holtam doesn\u2019t engage directly with corporate executives directly, but what would he say to the senior people at BP and Shell? \u201cThere\u2019s a community of common interest,\u201d\u009d he observes.<\/p>\n
