On the evening of 23 June in Berlin, Germany\u2019s highest officer of the Protestant churches condemned the current \u201crhetoric of crisis\u201d\u009d prevalent in European politics and society.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe worship of crisis is the idolatry of fatalists. The more crisis there is, the better. Such a crisis idolatry is affecting the mood of society,\u201d\u009d said Heinrich Bedford-Strohm, the Bavarian Lutheran bishop who is the current chairperson of the Council of Protestant Churches in Germany (EKD).<\/p>\n
\u201cThe highs of crisis management are followed by depression in the face of the next crisis,\u201d\u009d he told an audience made up of representatives of politics, society and religious communities.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is time that we as a country, and yes, as a European continent, agree on the narrative that should carry us forward,\u201d\u009d he continued, in referring to the Brexit referendum of the day before.<\/p>\n
