Throughout his talk, Idowu-Fearon emphasized the \u201cvigorous and robust\u201d\u009d character of the Anglican Communion, as it pursues the \u201capostolic mandate given by the Lord Jesus, to make disciples of all the nations.\u201d\u009d Again and again, he referenced \u201cmissionary calling,\u201d\u009d the \u201csacrificial offering\u201d\u009d of generations of English Anglicans zealous for global mission, and the C of E\u2019s contributions to the Anglican Communion.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a wonderful, if complex, story that I hope will never be forgotten,\u201d\u009d he said. \u201cI hope you realize this, because it is a fact that the Church of England today is giving necessary, effective, and beautiful gifts to the wider Communion.\u201d\u009d<\/p>\n
The secretary general did not shy away from noting the difficulties Anglican Communion provinces face: \u201ceconomic displacement and political uncertainty; family dissolution; refugees and migration; grinding poverty; and persecution,\u201d\u009d but also \u201cthe dispiriting and destructive dynamic of Anglican conflict over human sexuality\u201d\u009d and a worrisome fading of the \u201cfertile energy of outward mission.\u201d\u009d<\/p>\n
He lifted up the 1920 Lambeth Conference as a potential model for how to respond to these challenges: the assembled bishops recognized that communion is founded in \u201cthe undeflected will of God,\u201d\u009d who desires to \u201cwin over the whole human family.\u201d\u009d<\/p>\n
