O Lord, thou hast deceived me,
\n and I was deceived;
\nthou art stronger than I,
\n and thou hast prevailed.
\nI have become a laughingstock all the day;
\n every one mocks me.
\nFor whenever I speak, I cry out,
\n I shout, \u201cViolence and destruction!\u201d
\nFor the word of the Lord has become for me
\n a reproach and derision all day long.
\nIf I say, \u201cI will not mention him,
\n or speak any more in his name,\u201d
\nthere is in my heart as it were a burning fire
\n shut up in my bones,
\nand I am weary with holding it in,
\n and I cannot.
\nFor I hear many whispering.
\n Terror is on every side!
\n\u201cDenounce him! Let us denounce him!\u201d
\n say all my familiar friends,
\n watching for my fall.
\n\u201cPerhaps he will be deceived,
\n then we can overcome him,
\n and take our revenge on him.\u201d
\nBut the Lord is with me as a dread warrior;
\n therefore my persecutors will stumble,
\n they will not overcome me.
\nThey will be greatly shamed,
\n for they will not succeed.
\nTheir eternal dishonor
\n will never be forgotten.<\/p>\n
