For the 36-year-old, tying the knot was about making a formal commitment to the love of her life: herself.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve been told that I am a great catch and today I am catching myself,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
What initially started out as a housewarming party, [Erika] Anderson said, later evolved.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was like, \u2018And I\u2019ll marry myself,\u2019\u201d she said. \u201cI think it\u2019s hard not to adopt whatever society\u2019s messages are \u2026 and I certainly think that one of the messages is, \u2018You are not enough if you are not with someone else.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
Anderson is far from alone. She joins a small yet growing number of women from around the world who have held weddings for themselves. Yasmin Eleby celebrated her 40th birthday by saying \u201cI do\u201d to herself, and her mother even walked her down the aisle.<\/p>\n
