Last week Joy Behar, co-host of the ABC show \u201cThe View,\u201d did something that has become an escalating trend in our popular culture over the past 10 years \u2014 she mocked religiosity.<\/p>\n
In a segment about Vice President Mike Pence and his belief that he hears the voice of God, Behar quipped: \u201cIt\u2019s one thing to talk to Jesus. It\u2019s another thing when Jesus talks to you. That\u2019s called mental illness, if I\u2019m not correct .\u2009.\u2009. hearing voices.\u201d<\/p>\n
The audience of \u201cThe View\u201d clapped and laughed along with her.<\/p>\n
But outside the entertainment bubble, in places like Cumberland, people were horrified.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am not sure what shocked me the most, that Behar mocked one of the core beliefs of Christianity or the reaction of the studio audience,\u201d said Tim McGregor, pastor at the Lighthouse of Hope, a non-denominational Christian church here in western Maryland.<\/p>\n
