\u201cYou\u2019ve got this huge parallel community that\u2019s emerged, largely online, in which people are supporting each other though withdrawal and developing best practices largely without the help of doctors,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Dr. Stockmann, the psychiatrist in East London, wasn\u2019t entirely convinced withdrawal was a serious issue before he went through it himself. His microtapering strategy finally worked.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere was a really significant moment,\u201d he recalled. \u201cI was walking down near my house, past a forest, and I suddenly realized I could feel the full range of emotions again. The birds were louder, the colors more vivid \u2014 I was happy.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI have seen lots of people \u2014 patients \u2014 not being believed, not taken seriously when they complained about this,\u201d he added. \u201cThat has to stop.\u201d<\/p>\n
