Dublin: Irish evangelical leader Bishop Harold Miller of Down and Dromore conceded his decision to attend the Anglican Lambeth Conference \u201cdid not make sense\u201d\u009d in light of the agenda and invitation list put forward by the Archbishop of Canterbury, but it was important to \u201cgive it one more chance\u201d\u009d so as to preserve the gathering\u2019s \u201cmoral authority.\u201d\u009d<\/p>\n
In his Presidential Address to the Synod of the Diocese of Down and Dromore on June 19, Bishop Miller noted this month\u2019s Lambeth Conference would be marked by the absence of a \u201cquarter of our bishops.” He was \u201cdeeply saddened\u201d\u009d by their decision as it would undermine the \u201cmoral authority\u201d\u009d of the Conference, as well as excluding the voices of the most vibrant churches in the Communion.<\/p>\n
However, he also expressed concerns about the conference as planned, noting it had been recast into a \u201cretreat-come-training-conference and a meeting and listening place for bishops.\u201d\u009d<\/p>\n
The agenda \u201cbothers me,\u201d\u009d he said, asking \u201cWho is doing the \u201d\u02dctraining\u2019 and how is it going to be \u201d\u02dcslanted?\u201d\u009d<\/p>\n
