Then suddenly a loud clamour
\nwas heard on high: a throng of heaven’s angels,
\na brightly shining band, heralds of glory,
\ncame in a company. Our king passed
\nthrough the temple roof while they gazed,
\nthey who remained behind the dear one still
\nin that meeting-place, the chosen thegns.
\nThey saw the Lord ascend on high,
\nGod’s Son from the ground.
\nTheir minds were sorrowful,
\nhot at heart, mourning in spirit,
\nbecause they would no longer see
\nthe dear one beneath the heavens. The celestial heralds
\nraised up a song, praised the Prince,
\nextolled the Source of life, rejoiced in the light
\nwhich shone from the Saviour’s head.
\nThey saw two bright angels
\nbeautifully gleaming with adornments around the First-begotten,
