{"id":71252,"date":"2018-05-17T18:00:26","date_gmt":"2018-05-17T22:00:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kendallharmon.net\/?p=71252"},"modified":"2018-05-17T18:32:32","modified_gmt":"2018-05-17T22:32:32","slug":"globemail-andre-picard-should-universities-inform-parents-when-their-children-have-mental-health-issues","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kendallharmon.net\/?p=71252","title":{"rendered":"(Globe+Mail) Andre Picard&#8211;Should universities inform parents when their children have mental-health issues?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-article-body__text\">The transition from high school to university or college is one of the most stressful times in a young person\u2019s life.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text\">The late teens, early 20s are also the time in life when severe mental illness often reveals itself and when earlier mental-health issues \u2013 eating disorders, anxiety, depression and the like \u2013 can be exacerbated.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text\">Suicide is a leading cause of death in this age group, second only to motor-vehicle crashes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text\">\u201cEvery parent should know that this can happen to any family. We\u2019re living proof of this,\u201d says Eric Windeler, founder and executive director of\u00a0<a class=\"\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.jack.org\/\">Jack.org<\/a>, which promotes mental- health advocacy by young people.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text\">Jack Windeler died by suicide in March, 2010, while he was a student at Queen\u2019s University.
