Where does the church go from here?<\/p>\n
That depends on who you ask.<\/p>\n
Jane Span, 80, who has attended Church of the Epiphany since she was 25, doesn\u2019t have much hope for her beloved church.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe just don\u2019t have people rushing to join the Episcopal Church,\u201d Span said.<\/p>\n
And without a sizable number of congregants, running the church can be expensive, she said. The church needs to be maintained. Except for the priest, everyone who works at the church is a volunteer.<\/p>\n
Plus, she suspects that not as many African-American families have continued to raise their families with the Episcopal faith.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was born in the church,\u201d Span said. \u201cAnd I think it makes a difference.\u201d<\/p>\n
Keeping the church\u2019s history alive is also difficult.<\/p>\n
