Then Jonah prayed to the Lord his God from the belly of the fish, saying,<\/p>\n
\u201cI called to the Lord, out of my distress,
\n and he answered me;
\nout of the belly of Sheol I cried,
\n and thou didst hear my voice.
\nFor thou didst cast me into the deep,
\n into the heart of the seas,
\n and the flood was round about me;
\nall thy waves and thy billows
\n passed over me.
\nThen I said, \u2018I am cast out
\n from thy presence;
\nhow shall I again look
\n upon thy holy temple?\u2019
\nThe waters closed in over me,
\n the deep was round about me;
\nweeds were wrapped about my head
\n at the roots of the mountains.
\nI went down to the land
\n whose bars closed upon me for ever;
\nyet thou didst bring up my life from the Pit,
\n O Lord my God.
\nWhen my soul fainted within me,
\n I remembered the Lord;
\nand my prayer came to thee,
\n into thy holy temple.
\nThose who pay regard to vain idols
\n forsake their true loyalty.
\nBut I with the voice of thanksgiving
\n will sacrifice to thee;
\nwhat I have vowed I will pay.
\n Deliverance belongs to the Lord!\u201d<\/p>\n
And the Lord spoke to the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land.<\/p>\n
