Smaller churches aren\u2019t necessarily broken, stuck or ineffective.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text\">Effective churches exist in all shapes and sizes. Including churches that haven\u2019t grown numerically in a while.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text\">But the myths persist. Especially&nbsp;<a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.christianitytoday.com\/karl-vaters\/2018\/february\/modern-myth-of-persistently-growing-congregation.html?paging=off\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the myth<\/a>&nbsp;that if a church is healthy it will get bigger. And the corresponding myth that if a church isn\u2019t getting bigger it\u2019s either a problem to be fixed (at best) or it\u2019s beyond fixing and&nbsp;<a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.christianitytoday.com\/karl-vaters\/2016\/july\/grow-close-third-option-for-struggling-small-churches.html?paging=off\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">needs to be closed<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text\">It doesn\u2019t matter if there\u2019s&nbsp;<a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.christianitytoday.com\/karl-vaters\/2017\/november\/28-non-numerical-signs-of-healthy-church.html?paging=off\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">other evidence<\/a>&nbsp;of health outside the numbers. For too many of us, church size is the primary (or only) factor in determining the health and value of a local congregation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text\">This thinking is not just mistaken, it\u2019s dangerous. History has regularly shown us that any time we equate bigger with better in the kingdom of God, it leads to problems.
