{"id":78919,"date":"2019-02-25T07:30:37","date_gmt":"2019-02-25T12:30:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kendallharmon.net\/?p=78919"},"modified":"2019-02-25T08:13:42","modified_gmt":"2019-02-25T13:13:42","slug":"a-umns-update-on-the-special-united-methodist-general-conference-a-of-last-night","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kendallharmon.net\/?p=78919","title":{"rendered":"A UMNS update on the Special United Methodist General Conference as of Last Night"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Petitions meant to address pensions and the Traditional Plan topped the list of priorities for what General Conference delegates will work on in their legislative committee.<\/p>\n<p>This was a key vote as delegates to the denomination\u2019s top lawmaking assembly try to set the direction in the denomination\u2019s longtime debate over homosexuality.<\/p>\n<p>By 56 votes, the Traditional Plan topped the One Church Plan, supported by a majority of the bishops.<\/p>\n<p>The Traditional Plan was second behind pensions, and the One Church Plan was fifth behind legislation that deals with disaffiliating churches.<\/p>\n<p>The Traditional Plan would strengthen restrictions against officiating at same-gender unions and being \u201cself-avowed practicing\u201d gay clergy. The One Church Plan would leave questions of same-sex weddings up to individual clergy and congregations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re very happy the Traditional Plan received the majority of the votes,\u201d said the Rev.
