deacon in <a tabindex=\"-1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.churchtimes.co.uk\/topics\/diocese-of-gloucester\">Gloucester diocese <\/a>in the 1990s by the same \u201ctribalism and clericalism\u201d identified by the official abuse inquiry in its latest report.<\/p>\n<p>Bishop Faull was one of a handful of bishops to respond individually to the scathing conclusions published in the latest Independent Inquiry into Child Sex Abuse (<a tabindex=\"-1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.churchtimes.co.uk\/topics\/independent-inquiry-into-child-sex-abuse-iicsa\">IICSA<\/a>) report, <em><a tabindex=\"-1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.iicsa.org.uk\/reports\/anglican-chichester-peter-ball\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Anglican Church Case Studies: The diocese of Chichester and the response to allegations against Peter Ball<\/a> <\/em>(<a tabindex=\"-1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.churchtimes.co.uk\/articles\/2019\/17-may\/news\/uk\/criticism-of-church-in-peter-ball-case-well-deserved-says-bishop-whom-ball-manipulated\">News, 17 May<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>In both <a tabindex=\"-1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.churchtimes.co.uk\/topics\/diocese-of-chichester\">the diocese of Chichester <\/a>and the wider Church, it states: \u201cThe responses to child sexual abuse were marked by secrecy, prevarication, avoidance of reporting alleged crimes to the authorities and a failure to take professional advice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This included the Church\u2019s \u201cunwavering support of <a tabindex=\"-1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.churchtimes.co.uk\/topics\/peter-ball\">Peter Ball<\/a>\u201d \u2014 the disgraced former bishop and convicted abuser \u2014 during the Gloucestershire Police investigation (allegations about Ball came to light when he was translated from Lewes to Gloucester), and its failure to \u201crecognise or acknowledge the seriousness\u201d of Ball\u2019s misconduct.<\/p>\n<p><a
