{"id":82826,"date":"2019-06-18T16:16:56","date_gmt":"2019-06-18T20:16:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kendallharmon.net\/?p=82826"},"modified":"2019-06-18T17:39:10","modified_gmt":"2019-06-18T21:39:10","slug":"cnbc-charitable-contributions-take-a-hit-following-tax-reform","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kendallharmon.net\/?p=82826","title":{"rendered":"(CNBC) Charitable contributions take a hit following tax reform"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After years of strong growth, total charitable giving rose just 0.7% in 2018, according to a new report on philanthropy by <a class=\"\" tabindex=\"\" title=\"\" role=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/givingusa.org\/\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-type=\"\" aria-label=\"\">Giving USA<em>.<\/em><\/a> When adjusted for inflation, total giving declined 1.7%.<\/p>\n<p>Last year was the first time the impact of the new tax law, which eliminated or sharply reduced the benefits of charitable giving for many would-be donors, could be measured.<\/p>\n<p>Altogether, individuals, bequests, foundations and corporations donated an estimated $427.71 billion to U.S. charities in 2018, Giving USA said. But giving by individuals fell, while contributions from foundations and corporations rose.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe certainly do have a pretty stark picture that tax reform took effect and charitable giving declined,\u201d said Laura MacDonald, the president of Benefactor Group and vice chair of the Giving USA foundation board.
