Bishop Jane Alexander, bishop of the diocese of Edmonton, says she will be stepping down from her position July 31, with \u201cno idea\u201d what she will be doing next.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have no need to say, \u2018What\u2019s the next big thing?\u2019 The big thing is always just serving Jesus wherever he puts you,\u201d says Alexander. \u201cSo, I know that\u2019s what I\u2019ll be called to do, but what that looks like? I have no idea.\u201d<\/p>\n
Alexander announced her resignation in a letter January 26.<\/p>\n
In an interview with the Journal, Alexander said that she had been feeling a change coming for a while. \u201cSometimes I think we think of discernment as something that happens once and then we go, \u2018There, you\u2019re done.\u2019 But that\u2019s never been my experience of it. I think we get called into places and called out of places, and I was aware\u2026easily a year ago, that something different was changing\u2026. I\u2019ve come to the conclusion that I\u2019m actually being called out of diocesan episcopal ministry.\u201d<\/p>\n
