I am the man who has seen affliction
\nunder the rod of his wrath;
\nhe has driven and brought me
\ninto darkness without any light;
\nsurely against me he turns his hand
\nagain and again the whole day long.<\/p>\n

He has made my flesh and my skin waste away,
\nand broken my bones;
\nhe has besieged and enveloped me
\nwith bitterness and tribulation;
\nhe has made me dwell in darkness
\nlike the dead of long ago.<\/p>\n

He has walled me about so that I cannot escape;
\nhe has put heavy chains on me;
\nthough I call and cry for help,
\nhe shuts out my prayer;
\nhe has blocked my ways with hewn stones,
\nhe has made my paths crooked.<\/p>\n
