{"id":92037,"date":"2020-04-23T17:14:48","date_gmt":"2020-04-23T21:14:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kendallharmon.net\/?p=92037"},"modified":"2020-04-23T17:35:45","modified_gmt":"2020-04-23T21:35:45","slug":"the-state-if-south-carolina-stops-social-distancing-coronavirus-cases-could-rebound-dhec-warns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kendallharmon.net\/?p=92037","title":{"rendered":"(The State) If South Carolina stops social distancing, coronavirus cases could rebound, DHEC warns"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After nearly two months of combating the spread of coronavirus, South Carolina has plateaued and should see the number of cases begin to drop off \u2014 but only if South Carolinians continue to keep their distance from one another.<\/p>\n<p>That was the message Dr. Linda Bell, South Carolina\u2019s state epidemiologist, gave to a meeting of the Midlands Coronavirus Task Force on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are at the plateau, but we are not on a downward trend, and we want to see a downward trend,\u201d Bell said. As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thestate.com\/news\/coronavirus\/article242132891.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow noopener noreferrer\">the state\u2019s economy now begins to reopen<\/a>, \u201cI cannot emphasize enough that we have to maintain social distancing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s particularly important in the Midlands, where Richland County has been hit with the largest number of cases in the state, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thestate.com\/news\/coronavirus\/article242070211.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow noopener noreferrer\">especially in the African-American community<\/a>. Bell said Richland ranks fifth statewide in the per capita rate of cases, at 174 per 100,000 residents.
