{"id":92772,"date":"2020-05-15T08:00:53","date_gmt":"2020-05-15T12:00:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kendallharmon.net\/?p=92772"},"modified":"2020-05-15T05:20:41","modified_gmt":"2020-05-15T09:20:41","slug":"church-times-cathedrals-face-sharp-drop-in-income","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kendallharmon.net\/?p=92772","title":{"rendered":"(Church Times) Cathedrals face sharp drop in income"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As churches learned this week that their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.churchtimes.co.uk\/topics\/coronavirus\">coronavirus<\/a> shutdown <a href=\"https:\/\/www.churchtimes.co.uk\/articles\/2020\/15-may\/news\/uk\/churches-must-stay-closed-until-july\">could end in July<\/a>, administrators of the nation\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.churchtimes.co.uk\/topics\/cathedrals\">cathedrals<\/a> are beginning to consider what life in the \u201cnew normal\u201d will be like.<\/p>\n<p>With their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.churchtimes.co.uk\/topics\/church-buildings\">doors closed<\/a>, many have adapted new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.churchtimes.co.uk\/topics\/technology\">technology<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.churchtimes.co.uk\/topics\/internetonline\">live-streaming<\/a> services and linking remotely through apps such as Zoom. But cathedrals have also taken a severe financial hit, with the loss of collections, no visitor spending, and the cancellation of events that often fund a significant proportion of their annual expenditure.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn top of daily <a href=\"https:\/\/www.churchtimes.co.uk\/topics\/worship\">worship<\/a>, events are the bread and butter of what cathedrals do, but they are going to be low down on the list of things relaxed,\u201d the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.churchtimes.co.uk\/topics\/church-commissioners\">Church Commissioners\u2019<\/a> Head of Bishoprics and Cathedrals, Michael Minta, said.
