Is that sniffle allergies, or a sign of a deadly pathogen? Is that headache just a headache, or\u2026?<\/p>\n<p>One of the things that makes coronavirus a wily foe for epidemiologists is that it has a really long list of possible symptoms\u2014including none at all.<\/p>\n<div class=\"paywall\">\n<p>The catalog offered by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, based on reports from people who have had Covid-19, includes fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle aches, body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion, runny nose, diarrhea, nausea or vomiting.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s particularly vexing if you\u2019re an athlete or sports league determined to try to play through a pandemic. The National Football League, which has experienced <a class=\"icon none\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/covid-19-cases-are-surging-in-americaand-the-nfl-11604667601?mod=article_inline\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a significant increase in cases<\/a> in recent weeks as cases rise across the country, knows this all too well. After bursts of positive cases earlier in the season, the league overhauled its pandemic protocols to remove anyone who\u2019s showing possible symptoms of Covid-19\u2014even if they\u2019re testing negative.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a challenging medical situation,\u201d said Dr. Allen Sills, the NFL\u2019s chief medical officer. \u201cWe always assume something is Covid until proven otherwise.\u201d\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/the-question-vexing-parents-and-the-nfl-is-it-allergies-or-covid-11605873600\">Read it all<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Your nose is runny, you&#39;re tired, your head hurts. <\/p>\n<p>It&#39;s a problem facing both NFL teams and everyday Americans deciding if they should go to work or send a child to school.
