The people who walked in darkness
\nhave seen a great light;
\nthose who dwelt in a land of deep darkness,
\non them has light shined.
\nThou hast multiplied the nation,
\nthou hast increased its joy;
\nthey rejoice before thee
\nas with joy at the harvest,
\nas men rejoice when they divide the spoil.
\nFor the yoke of his burden,
\nand the staff for his shoulder,
\nthe rod of his oppressor,
\nthou hast broken as on the day of Mid\u201d\u00b2ian.
\nFor every boot of the tramping warrior in battle tumult
\nand every garment rolled in blood
\nwill be burned as fuel for the fire.
\nFor to us a child is born,
\nto us a son is given;
\nand the government will be upon his shoulder,
\nand his name will be called
\n\u201cWonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
