\u201cVigorous conversation is a good thing,\u201d\u009d Bishop Jefferts Schori said, \u201cand not something to be afraid of.\u201d\u009d She said disagreement is to be expected. \u201cThe body has many parts with different roles. That\u2019s what unity looks like\u201d\u201dpeople working together in spite of their differences to serve the people of the world.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf everybody\u2019s a little uncomfortable, I think it means we\u2019re doing our job. We have something to learn from people who are most irritated with us.\u201d\u009d<\/p>\n
A responsibility of all church members, she said, is \u201cgetting outside our beautiful buildings\u201d\u009d into the community and \u201cspeaking the good news\u201d\u009d about Jesus who \u201cis friend, prophet, fully human and fully divine, a challenger of the status quo and of being too comfortable, healer, feeder of the hungry and challenger of the demons who say there is no hope.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are a pilgrim people,\u201d\u009d she continued, \u201cand not allowed to settle down until all people find a home in God. I think that is the kind of people we need to be, to know we have no permanent home except in God.\u201d\u009d<\/p>\n
