{"id":98405,"date":"2021-01-08T07:30:10","date_gmt":"2021-01-08T12:30:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kendallharmon.net\/?p=98405"},"modified":"2021-01-08T07:48:13","modified_gmt":"2021-01-08T12:48:13","slug":"cnbc-pfizer-vaccine-appears-to-neutralize-a-key-mutation-of-covid-variants-found-in-uk-south-africa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kendallharmon.net\/?p=98405","title":{"rendered":"(CNBC) Pfizer vaccine appears to neutralize a key mutation of Covid variants found in UK, South Africa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A coronavirus vaccine developed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/?symbol=PFE\">Pfizer<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/?symbol=BNTX\">BioNTech<\/a> appears to be effective against a key mutation in the more infectious variants of the virus discovered in the U.K. and South Africa, according to a study conducted by the U.S. pharmaceutical giant.<\/p>\n<p>It comes as countries scramble to contain the variants that are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2021\/01\/07\/coronavirus-who-warns-of-tipping-point-in-covid-pandemic.html\">significantly more transmissible<\/a>, with public health experts anxious about the potential impact on inoculation efforts.<\/p>\n<div class=\"BoxInline-container  \">\n<div id=\"BoxInline-ArticleBody-5\" class=\"BoxInline-container\" data-module=\"mps-slot\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The research, published Thursday on preprint server <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biorxiv.org\/content\/10.1101\/2021.01.07.425740v1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">bioRxiv<\/a> and not yet peer-reviewed, suggested the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine worked to neutralize the so-called N501Y mutation.<\/p>\n<p>The N501Y mutation has been reported in the more infectious variants.
