I wished we would have showed up for most of the first half. And the stall tactics by Ghana in the last ten minutes of O/T was aggravating otherwise a spirited match and gallant effort by both sides.

Does this mean sports coverage can return to games with players smart enough to actually use their hands?

But do call your brother at some point.

  4. Larry Morse says:

This is a relief. Soccer is more tiresome than cricket. Can we return to sports wherein one side does NOT kick a ball down an enormous field so that it can be kicked in the opposite direction with the same result, over and over and over. What IS the fascination? Larry

It’s been great to see the coverage and interest this World Cup have generated. Sad the US didn’t make it through but they represented their country with honor and passion.

To the above: are you seriously recommending a sport where the players wear helmets and padded clothes? And do I see radio contact during the game between players and coach?

I thought the US team played brilliantly and with great sportsmanship, which, alas, was missing at times in the Ghana side with the acting up as injured and the grabbing of shirts and worse. However, that goal by Gyan was such a splendid example of athleticism and determination that it gave the final result an integrity that everybody can acknowledge.

Although I write from London I hold out no hope for the England team today. Watching the speed and fitness of both the Ghanaian and US teams yesterday I thought that the English could not match this, let alone tackle the Brazilians or the Spanish. (Yes I know there was a US-England draw earlier; I just think that the US team have got into their stride since then and it is a pity they will not have more time.)
