I’m positive on the top 4. But, as I look at this, I’m wondering if Russia should be in the top ten. I’ve lost track of Russia’s pop. as a stand alone country vs. the days of the old Soviet Union… It probably should be. Maybe just above Turkey? That’s my guess, anyway.
All in all, I wasn’t too bad. All of my picks were in the top 17. I should have realized the Philippines was above Egypt & Turkey.
Vietnam and Ethiopa are BIG surprises in the top 15. (Ethiopia?! I’m going to check that figure elsewhere…) And Germany caught me off guard too. (I guess like for my confusion over Russia’s size, I still haven’t adjusted to German reunification, and realized how big the united country is). When all of one’s schooling occurred before the fall of the Iron Curtain, it messes up one’s knowledge of geography…!
I had it pretty well worked out but the figures for Ethiopia surprised me too. rememberin all those pictures of starving Ethiopians of years ago? An interesting question would be projections for the next 20 years: see where Germany, Russia and Spain will be (barring lots of immigration that would profoundly change the demography and politics of those countries).

And Transnistria? Never heard of it before today. Guess I’ve been out of school too long!
