Enjoyed this tight match from a home in Cairo with the grandson of our retired Egyptian bishop, his friends and their parents. Egyptian fans join the daily iftar (breaking of the fast) and these late night games. When you leave a world cup party in the wee hours of the morning in Cairo during Ramadan it seems that the whole world is pouring out into the streets from apartmets and hookah cafes. Because of Messi and Barcelona I joined the younger slice of the party last night in cheering for Argentina. But the older wiser group was solidly convinced that the Netherlands would prevail. They said the question for the final would be “Dutch or Deutsch?”. But what will it be like to meet Germany after their slaughter of Brazil? Even the Egyptian youth thinks the Europeans must come out on top. Maaselema!
