Over 2000 priests from the Church of Uganda met today at Uganda Christian University in Mukono for the first all clergy conference for the East African church in 35 years. The two day gathering has brought together clergy from the church’s 35 dioceses under the theme “Revive your Church, O Lord.” The Dean of Sydney, the Very Rev. Kanishka Raffel led the opening plenary session. offering an exposition on the the Old Testament book of Habakkuk. The Rt. Rev. Mike Hill, Bishop of Bristol, (pictured) gave the keynote address on Christian leadership. Bishop Hill also spoke on the Doctrine of the Atonement and the cleansing power of the Holy Spirit. A press handout from the Church of Uganda cited Bishop Hill as saying clergy should not only seek forgiveness of their sins, but should seek to be cleansed by the blood of Christ so that the desire to sin be removed. “Too many people want to be forgiven, but they don’t want to be cleaned,” he said . Two other overseas guests, Church of Nigeria bishops the Rt. Rev. Sosthenes Eze of the Diocese of Enugu North and the Rt. Rev.. Aloysius Agbo of Nsukka Diocese challenged the clergy to go deeper in prayer and repentance in order to experience personal revival that leads to widespread revival in the church, the handout said.
