RNS: Conservative Anglican Primates Back New Province

Five Anglican archbishops have backed the introduction of a new Anglican province in North America, a significant, though unsurprising boost for the conservative-led initiative.

“We fully support this development with our prayer and blessing,”
said the archbishops, who are called primates because they lead regional branches of the worldwide Anglican Communion. “It demonstrates the determination of these faithful Christians to remain authentic Anglicans.”

Unless they get 2/3 of the primaters, it’s no-go. Good luck.

Either a new province, or a new Church……your choice, but one way or another, it is happening. It can’t be stopped.

    Plinx,
Is that 2/3 of the Primates or 2/3 of the Primates present at the vote? 😉

Godspeed. You could attract up to . . . oh, 10% of the American church. There’s not a great groundswell of support for this in the U.S. (I know, you don’t care), but I’m tired of reading these breathless posts that seem to suggest that the great majority of those in the pews will defect to the new, purified Church of Smug.

    libraryjim,
Since the GAFCON bishops don’t like to show up at meetings (and risk getting cooties from the Americans or whoever else is deemed to be unclean this week), I don’t think the Western churches have much to worry about. What’s in the ACC constitution?

Ah, but don’t you know, the votes for deposition are in the same category — 2/3 of all bishops eligible to vote were required for passage, which was changed to 2/3 of those eligible to vote WHO WERE PRESENT were needed to pass.

So, again I ask: 2/3 of all Primates, or 2/3 of all Primates PRESENT?

So long needed, the “new church” won’t attract a majority of TEC because they are “content”–as cows milked regularly are content. A “green” version of Lessons and Carols, semi-attention to Christ’s divinity, clergy who never learned the liturgy, and pretty flowers up front each Sunday are enough for them.
