Merciful God, who didst raise up thy servant Frances Joseph-Gaudet to work for prison reform and the education of her people: Grant that we, encouraged by the example of her life, may work for those who are denied the fullness of life by reasons of incarceration and lack of access to education ; through Jesus Christ, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever (moved over from tomorrow–KSH).
Frances Joseph Gaudet earned a nat’l reputation as a prison reformer & missionary. She raised $5,000, purchased 105 acres of land and founded the Gaudet Normal & Industrial School of Black Youth in 1902. It was both an orphanage and a school known for its academic excellence. pic.twitter.com/8APcVbIdjU
