Statement from the Anglican Communion Institute on recently posted Material

The Rev’d Mr Harris has released via his blog confidential emails not addressed to him. We assume him to be a man of civility and honor, in view of his role as a member of the Executive Council of The Episcopal Church. The Anglican Communion Institute has long been on record as supportive of the Anglican Communion, the Covenant process, and the flourishing of the Episcopal Church and the defense of its Constitution. We have welcomed the Pastoral Visitors idea as emerging from the Communion’s common life, and have been engaged, through Communion Partners, with a plan that would honor the polity of this Church and find a way to maintain the unity of the Church and of the Anglican Communion. Communion Partners has from its inception been on record as wishing to prevent churches from leaving because, given the season we are in, they were unclear about the place of their own mission within the larger Anglican Communion. Our understanding of the proper role to be exercised by the Presiding Bishop, consistent with the Constitution of The Episcopal Church, is the subject of a public document to be found on our web-site (see the 12 March 2009 essay below) and so no secret.

Mr Harris has put before the public email communications that are not addressed to him, but are fully consistent with this larger goal of maintaining the witness of the Anglican Communion and the role of The Episcopal Church as integral within that.

Read it all.

Is Mr. Harris the same as Mark Harris?

  2. Crackers says:

What’s the deal with Colorado? Why all the bluster and fight there instead of elsewhere? Does the bishop there do something to engender discontent?

Hmmm. Someone may have taken an entire creative work authored by another, and reproduced that creative work on the internet, including distributing copies of the entire creative work to the public. There is a name for that, I believe…

[1] I think so. Check Preludium under Reappraiser Blogs on the right margin.

Yes that would be mark Harris and the frequently noted Deludium site, both by other names but the same entities.

I must say, I chuckled when I read this from Mark Harris:

[blockquote]”…they are not the middle way but rather a conservative thread in TEC that needs to be honored but not coddled.” (emphasis supplied)[/blockquote]

It is easy to picture Mark Harris, member of ‘da Commission,’ saying this while tapping the palm of his left hand with business end of bludgeon:

[blockquote]”I unnerstan’ dat da ACI is becoming a bit of a problem. You just don’t question the Capo di tutti capi, see.”[/blockquote]

Of course, it would be “coddling” to follow the historic norms of canonical law. Yikes! If history teaches, then being “honored but not coddled” by reappraisers in TEC means “gettin’ whacked.”

I just hope he and his cronies quit whining now about when their e-mails to the HOB/D listserv get published on places like StandFirm. Alas, I am sure it’s a different category when somebody you disagree with does this versus when it is someone with whom you agree.

After reading around about today’s events it looks like this could have huge human fall out. Once again, for some it is just another afternoon on the blogs, but for others it is life and death very serious business affecting their livelihoods, families, and congregations.

Folks need to realize that this is high stakes to the death for TEC and they will just step over the bodies on their way to full inclusion, and if exclusion were the other alternative all would be well, but economic and character death is their game for those who cross them.

We are playing with fire here boys and girls, make no mistake about it.

I guess others found this same quote interesting. My chuckle came primarily from the comment that the ACI/Communion Partners are “conservative”. From over here (on what TEC would call the extreme right) I would see them as the middle way but what do I know? The phrase “honored not coddled” translates politely as, “You have our attention and now we are about to get your attention”. I believe 815 has a contingency plan to deal with the ACI/CP folks. GenCon09 is going to be more interesting than the next release of Star Trek and they will also be seeking to “go where no man has gone before”.

Crackers is right in post #8. The Communion Partners bishops and dioceses should now fully expect to be in the target sites of the PB and her ruling cabal. In many ways the outcome of this legal question (i.e. is TEC the creation of its dioceses, or are the dioceses the creation of TEC?) is the most critical question to be resolved in this whole situation. For the left to react in the way that they are (and pretty clearly with the PB’s and Executive Council’s full backing) suggests that they are scared silly of the ACI/CP’s argument, and are quite prepared to vilify and attack the ACI and CP bishops in whatever way they have to. I hope that the CP bishops have a contingency plan for a summary blitzkrieg deposition of them (and a “derecognition” of their diocesan standing committees) because their vestments now have a similar design as that of a shopping bag from Target.
